Chameleon represents eternal life

Questions

1.) What did god send the chameleon to do?

2.) What did the lizard set off to tell the people?

3.) Why didn't the chameleon make it to the people before the lizard?

4.) Did god send the lizard?

5.) Why are both the chameleon and the lizard considered bad omens?

God sent the chameleon to announce to men that they would never die. The chameleon went on his mission, but he walked slowly and stopped along the way to eat. Sometime after the chameleon left, a lizard went to announce to men that they would die. Being much quicker than the chameleon, the lizard arrived first, establishing the mortal nature of man. As a consequence of this myth, both chameleons and lizards are often considered bad omens to Bantu cultures.
