Learning

Learning is a change that is lasting in length; a change in behavior that happens from events and experience.

(Learning: Meaning, Nature, Types and Theories of Learning. (2015, April 30).)

Example- Everyday in my classes I learn a variety of different information that is told to me by my teachers that I will retain for a long amount of time.

Cognition

Cognition is a process that is involved with how humans process information, or gain knowledge. Cognition includes how we think, how we remember information, and our problem solving skills.

(Cognitive Psychology Medical Definition. (n.d.))

Example- In Geometry I learned and remembered new theorems by reading and doing problems that included the theorems.

How are these related?

For learning in an educational environment to happen cognitive learning skills must be practiced and motivation is needed for a student to care to practice these skills. Thus, motivation, cognition, and learning all have to take place for a student to excel.

Learning is a process that occurs in the brain when we are told new information. When we learn new things our brain starts to make new neurological connections between the neurons in our brain. The brain itself rewires to make these new connections and adopt the new information. After use of these new connections the information or task learned becomes easier to use or do. Many different disorders disturb this process. Children face problems such as ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, and other mental disabilities. These disorders cause children to have issues with concentrating , finding motivation, and participating in activities. By making tasks such as those harder student with these disorders have trouble learning. People with these disorders have brains that lack certain chemicals or that process things differently. These small differences in the brain are the root of these learning difficulties that come from these disorders. (Contents. (n.d.).)

Motivation

Motivation is the push or need that causes one to work in a certain direction towards a goal or objective. (Huitt, W. (2011))

Example- I personally have motivation to do well in all of my classes. This need makes me study and work hard so I will go in the direction to reach my goal.

Culture affects learning significantly. All around the world there are many different cultures, within these different cultures people learn differently. Some places education isn't strongly pursued or doesn't have enough funding this causes the children that live there to grow up not believing education is important or not having it in general.(A. (n.d.). Chapter 3. Culture and Style) All over Africa education isn't something the people practice majorly. Unlike here in the U.S very few people get very far in education in parts of Africa. Here people believe work and baring children are the primary customs that need to happen. South Korea is the best educational country. It is considered the best for many reasons. South Korea's government takes education very serious and has massive funds for education. Also the country itself believes education to be very important . Getting an education in South Korea is also simpler. Cost for higher education is lower then most countries which causes more students to continue school after doing primary school. The U.S values education more then places in Africa but doesn't make education as accessible or necessary as they do in North Korea. (WeAreTeachers Staff on April 5, 2013)
