BISHOP

KNIGHT

-The bishop is used to only move sideways, but on its color on the board.

For example:

This picture shows the directions in which way you can go.

-The knight is used to move around the board, but only in an L shaped way.

For example:

Look at this image and see where the red dots are on the board. Those are the avalable places that you can move your knight.

Pawns

-Pawns are used as front pieces to protect and back up other pieces such as the queen or the knight.

ROOK

-The rook is used to move up and down as well as to the side. Look at this picture and see how the rook moves on the board.

QUEEN

King

-The queen can move anyway and in any direction, an unlimited amount of spaces to move on the board. The image shows how the queen on a board would move.

-The King is the own important piece that you're trying to protect in the game. That's the piece that your opponent is trying to trap in the game.Look at the picture, it shows that the king can move any where in any direction just as long as it moves only one space at a time.
