Environmental Factors

The region contains two different environments. In the desert, the temperature is extreme heat and cold with little rainfall. But in the mountain ranges it has mild climate and many redwood trees.The Pacific Ocean also provided food and transportation. In the winter, skin and furs were used for clothes. Bark was used to make men’s breechcloth which is leather worn between the legs and tied at the waste.

The Miwok Tribe

The Miwok tribe was known for their plant knowledge and identification skills. They discovered many uses for plants which could be utilized as medicinal and nutritional aids.

The Pomo Tribe

The Pomo tribe was known for their great craftsmanship. They were known as masters of basketweaving and jewelry making.

The Shoshone Tribe

The Shoshone tribe was famous for their beautiful beadwork, woven baskets, arts and paintings.

Location

The Calfornia-Intermountain Region is located around the Pacific Coast of California. This region stretches across the states of Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and California.

The Paiute Tribe

The tribes that occupy this region is the Miwok, Pomo, Shoshone, and Paiute.

The Paiute Tribe was known for their contribution to the Ghost Dance Movement. The Ghost Dance was significant because it was a central feature among the Sioux tribe just prior to the massacre of Wounded Knee, in 1890.
