Breakdown in Trust

England's King George III had ousted the Whigs in the Parliament.

The new members of the Parliament had never visited America.

Information and Communication between the government in England and the colonies, was delayed inevitably.

The Parliament was historically the ruling law in England and its colonies.

Writers Light A Fire

The colonist argued that they were not represented in the Parliament. The British countered with the idea of virtual representation.

John Adams argued that a representative assembly should mirror its constituents.

Pamphlets were written to promote America's virtue in the face of England's ruthless power.

"Pimps and Parasites"

In 1764, the Connecticut Assembly declared that, "no law can be made or abrogated without the consent of the people by their representatives."

Newspapers spread the news of conflict and oppression caused by the British presence.

A War FOR ALL Americans

Postwar America:

* Population was on the rise

* America was more diverse

all their expenses.

Unequal Distribution of Wealth

Southern States had the highest level of personal wealth.

(90% of Americas unpaid worker lived in the South)

Middle Colonies did well too.

The New England Colonies were the least wealthy. The majority of their exports were sent to England and returned to them in manufactured goods.
