Retributive Justice

-One of the most commonly used types of justice today

  • example- an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth
  • basically that a person who does wrong should get that wrong done back to them in some way shape or form but no greater wrong than they have caused.
  • in the Bible Jesus though goes far from what was stated in the old testament by saying give someone who has wronged you more than necessary and give them only love and do not do that evil back to them.
  • this type of justice is used mostly in the military and law enforcement

Distributive Justice

4 Types of Justice

3 questions to ask when using distributive justice

  • what resources are being distributed?
  • who are the resources be distributed to?
  • by what means are the resources being distributed in society?
  • sharing when it is possible
  • but who gets what goods based on their situation and personal needs

Why they are needed in society

Restorative Justice

Restorative Justice is based of the concept of redemption and forgiveness between both parties.

  • this type of justice is used most often in the criminal system
  • is the essence of giving a person "a second chance"
  • repairs harm that was caused or revealed in the action of the perpetrator

Redemptive Justice

  • very similar to restorative justice
  • focuses more on the redemption of the one that caused the harm being done.
  • balance between consequence and forgiveness
  • makes room for the reparation of the relationship or situation
