.Each person’s challenge is to find the Creator,

celebrate the Creator and be of service with one’s

gifts to one’s people to all of humankind and to

all life in Creation

.When dying, a traditional person will call for the

ceremonies, medicine and prayers that will guide

his/her spirit back to the spirit world

.Spiritual leader or medicine person close to the

dying person will conduct the ceremonies

.Family and clan members will be present

The Circle of Life

.In order to understand death, first must embrace the circle of life

.Four stages in the journey of the human spirit:

-BIRTH

-LIFE

-DEATH

-AFTERLIFE -

SOME CEREMONIES SUCH AS:

-Many Native Canadians believe that death is the beginning of a journey into the next world. One’s spirit often needs help to make this journey.

- A journey to the other world will begin

----Cree, who honour the circle of life, also honour death. In their tradition, the body undergoes physical transformations, but the spirit remains unchanged.

WHY IS THIS RITUAL IMPORTANT?

-Those who have died also need to relearn what it is to be a spirit. The time required for this transition is slightly different for each person, but tradition requires a waiting period of one year. At that time, a Death Feast is held for the spirit of the person who has left

THE CREE AS A TRADITION

CONCLUTION

--Cree believe spirits have the power to reveal themselves and communicate with humans in dreams or visions. They also believe that northen lights are spirits of death relatives, so families and friends make a round dance to encourage the spirit of the deceased to fly free and join the other spirits.

.When someone dies, their spirit goes back to the Dreaming Ancestors in the land if the correct ceremonies rituals are conducted.

.Special dances and wailing songs are seen and heard in times of death or mourning periods.

.THEY MAKE A RITUAL/CEREMONY IN ORDER TO TRYING HELP THEM TO BECOME A SPIRIT.
