Joseph Stalin, was born on December 18, 1878 as Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili to his father Besarion Jughashvili, and mother Keke Geladze. He was born in Gori, Georgia, which was a russian peasant village. He was frail, so the other children treated him with a sense of inferiority. Because of this, Joseph began a quest for greatness and respect. He later changed his name to Stalin, which means steel in russian.

Though not a significant post at the time, it gave Stalin control over all of the leading legislator appointments, which allowed him to build his base of control. He made clever engagements and combined his power so that eventually nearly all members of the central command owed their position to him.
