Let the games begin....... (again)
Jagd auf Kohlenklau (1944)
("Hunting for the Coal Thief")
- The game had been produced during WWII as part of a Nazi propaganda campaign by Lepthian-Schiffers.
- Its main purpose was to promote energy conservation because of the war effort.
- Because of the war, things like paper became scarce. The game would encourage people to "fight the coal thief."
Games, Games, and more Games!
Candy Land (1949)
- The game had been created by Eleanor Abbott in 1945 during the polio epidemic that swept through the U.S.
- Abbott, who herself had polio, believed that the game would make it easier on the kids who were recovering from the disease. She believed it would cheer them up.
- The game would later be picked up by Milton Bradley Company (which is now owned by Hasbro)
and would be published 1949.
