Matvey was liberated by the Red Army

1940

The Romanian soldiers began shooting Jews. Matvey and his family barricaded their house but the soldiers broke in. One of the soldiers dragged Matvey and shot him in the neck. Later the soldiers check for a breath but he feigned death. They put rocks on him and left. Later, he rose and ran into the woods. He had survived Kristallnacht. Matvey had fled to a nearby town,but the Germans came the next day. He was deported to a forced labor camp in Ukraine.
