Pakicetus evolution

Basilosaurus

-The Basilosaurus, from head to tail reached 65 feet long

- vulnerable to deep water pressure

-In shallow waters it was a great swimmer

Dorudon

-Dorudon was hunted mostly by the Basilosaurus

-These were the first species to evolve to have a fluke.

-dorudon just means spear toothed

-The Ambulocetus stretched 10 to 11 feet in length

Ambulocetus

-large paddle like feet used for swimming

-The term Ambulocetus literal translation is walking whale.

Pakicetus' were found in Pakistan near the northern edge of the sea

The Pakicetus

Rodhocetus

-A Rodhocetus weighed around1000 pounds

-The legs were detached from its pelvis and its hips weren’t completely fused to its backbone.

-more specialized ear region of its skull for better hearing underwater

Kutchicetus

-The kutchicetus was the first whale to have blubber instead of fur

-its sacral vertebrae were hinged to the tail and hip bones

-the first development of mechanisms for transmitting sounds under water
