Amish Stereotypes and Stigmas

False Stereotype #2: Amish people do not use electricity

They use elecricity, they just use gas powered lighting and appliances, use horse and buggy transportation, use diesel generators to charge batteries and do not use utility companies.

As a whole, the Amish are uneducated compared to average Americans. They tend to focus on the work aspect more than the education aspect.

Legally, no one in the United States is exempt from paying taxes, they are only allowed to opt out of social security for religious reasons and technically social security is not a tax.
