Archetypes in Frozen

The Outcast

Elsa believes that she is an outcast from her kingdom so she barricades herself away from everyone else.

Damsel in Distress

Creature of Nightmare and Death and Rebirth

Elsa shuts everyone out and does not feel accepted so her sister, Anna, sets out on a journey to rescue her.

The snow monster that Elsa sent to defend her castle fights Anna and her companions.

Anna dies to protect her sister from Hans and because she did it for love she is reborn into the world once again

The Hero

The Temptress(er)

Anna goes to save her sister and to show her that she is not a bad person; Anna shows her how to use her gift for the good of others

Kristoff teaches Anna how to survive and battle off the bad in her sister Elsa. He supports her journey the whole way.

Hans is also the tempter in this movie. He tries to get Anna to marry him that way he would have control over her kingdom.

The Friendly Beast

The Bully

Sven is Kristoff's best friend who continuously supports the other characters in their journey.

Hans wants the power of the kingdom so when Anna returns to the kingdom dying he blows out the fire in order to kill her.

The Martyr

Olaf is willing to die for Anna because he believes that “some people are worth melting for” (Frozen)
