Endangered Species

WebQuest

Endangered means a species numbers are limited and if efforts to save them are not soon put in place some of our favorite species will be gone forever! You and your classmates will work collaboratively to inquire into the characteristics, adaptations, food chains and other important information about an endangered species of your choice.

Task

You and your classmates are biologists researching endangered species around the world. All of you share a LOVE for animals and will try to do anything, in your power, to help save wild life. The Earth needs your help!

That's why in school, we will be organising a program that will help protect wild life.

You have been called on to create a special program called P.E.S Protectors of Endangered Species, to defend different species who are near extinction.

Will you help us fight for all endangered species?

Process

Each group will choose a different species that is endangered. You will use the links given below and will record information gathered. Finally you will have to

1. Make a presentation on the animal chosen speaking about:

  • What is an endangered specie?
  • Characteristics: As ecologists it is your task to research the characteristics of your endangered species. What does the species look like? What does it eat? Where does it live? What species is it? (mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, etc.) Where is it on the food chain?
  • Causes of Endangerment: What is threatening the species? Identify the reasons that these species are endangered. Why are these species being threatened? How are human actions affecting these species?
  • How can we help: What can you do to help keep these creatures alive and protect them? Think about ways that you can help the environment locally and globally. What can the local government of that species change to save them?

2. Provide a leaflet with all the information on your reserach to convince your classmates to help this animal
