Social Impacts of this reaction

Environmental Impacts

-Many people today get many job with this reaction.

The industry that makes propane cylinders, lighters and other things would be devastated without the combustion of butane.

-Another social impact about this reaction is the fact that it provides home heating for millions of people. Many people would probably not be living in Canada if it wasn't for the heating as the weather in the Winter is way too tough to survive without heating. Without this reaction our population in Canada would decrease by a lot

-One of the main uses for Butane combustion are lighters which are primarily used to light cigarettes. Many people don't like seeing people smoke because of second hand smoking. So many people actually want lighters band(in a way banning butane) so people stop smoking

-Butane hash/ or and butane drugs are used among teens. Butane results in very serious hallucinations and many other dangerous side effects when alone and/or mixed with marijuana. Thus butane is commonly used socially as a illegal drug which is another social problem with the combustion of butane!

-The combustion of Butane is actually a much

more environmentally friendly substance than most fossil fuels as it releases less CO2 per unit. The problem is that gasoline is a lot easier to get compared to butane.

-Even though Butane is a lot more environmentally friendly, it still does spew out CO2 when burned which makes it still not the best fuel source possible and does result in global warming

-Lots of materials that butane is used in are often littered. For examples many lighters are always found on the road and with those lighters most people are probably lighting their cigarettes, and we found dozens of cigarettes on the ground everyday. Either Butane itself is littered or the items it is used for

-The reaction of butane combustion can also cause great damage to the environment. If some butane was spilled and just a little bit of heat or something natural like a lightning bolt ignited it . This would cause many plants and animals to burn and die.

The Importance of This Reaction

This reaction is used everyday and is one of the bases of our day to day lives. Butane is blended into LPG and is used all the time. For example we use it for cooking and heating out homes. The reaction also occurs when you light a lighter. Without this reaction cooking or heating would cost a lot more which would effect many people in the lives of us today as many people depend on heating because of the harsh climates.

The process

Usually butane is used for gasoline blending either alone or with a mixture of propane. Though butane is found in gas form at room temperature it is very easy to change into a liquid(lighter fluid). It is then ignited with some energy which results in a flame appearing.

Word Equation

Butane(g) + Oxygen(g) Carbon Dioxide(g) + Water(l)

A Balanced Chemical Equation

2C4H10 + 13O2 = 8CO2 + 10H2O
