Greek Mythology helped influence famous Greek theater over the years. Modern scholars refer to and study the myths in an attempt to shed light on the religious and political institutions of Ancient Greece and its civilization, and to gain understanding of the nature of myth-making itself. The plays would portray concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. It was a part of the religion in ancient Greece and started around 700 BC. Different performers would compete at Greek festivals to see who could portray the best character of a god or nature of the world. A play writer who wrote many famous plays was Euripedes. He wrote the famous play Medea in 431 BC, which is a tragedy between Jason and Medea’s myth as Medea seeks revenge.
My version of the play Medea is the conflict between what reality is and what a figment of your imagination is. The setting takes place on an abended island near Somalin islands near the Philippines. Medea believes that Jason is there and that she has 2 children as well. There is a mystical spirit that has caused her to go insane and loose sign of reality. She must go on an adventure to finally realize her world is not real. She finally overcomes the evil spirit at the end and is raised into the heavens above to meet with Jason and 2 children.
That play will take part on the beach where she lives in an old torn up house that no one is in except her. She also will be in the jungle so I will have trees, swamp, rocks, and coconuts on the set. I want to let the audience truly understand how alone she really is and how far life is from her as she is the only one on the island.
