  • The number/ digit/ concept zero was started in Ancient India.
  • It was written down as a dot in Sanskrit.
  • It was officially made in the fifth century A.D.

Y is for Yoga

  • Yoga started in ancient India about 5,000 years ago as an exercise and healer.
  • Yoga can also be known as a connection with the body, mind, or spirit.
  • When doing yoga you clear your mind, and it helps you decrease stress.
  • Ancient Indians did Yoga when meditating.

  • Ancient India is located in Southern Asia.
  • Ancient India a considered a subcontinent because it is very large.

W is for Water

  • Water was VERY important for ancient Indian people; it had many uses!
  • Farmers used it to fertilize and water their crops, (using irrigation).
  • People also use water for cooking, washing, and bathing!

U is for Untouchables

V is for Vaisyas

  • Untouchables are known as the Dalit's in the caste system, but most people don't even think them as even IN the caste system.
  • You are not aloud to look or talk to the Untouchables at any time.
  • They are given the jobs that no one else wants; such as disposing dead body's, or a street sweeper.
  • Vaisyas made up the 3rd part of the caste system.
  • It is made up Merchants, Craftsman, or a landowner.
  • They sold things that Sudra's made for them, and made a good amount of money for a living.

T is for Temples

  • There are temples for any religion, even Buddhism, though there is no gods.
  • Temples are used in the Hindu Religion to worship Gods.
  • People make sacrifices and pray in temples to Gods, too.

S is for Siddhartha Gautama

  • Siddhartha Gautama is the founder of Buddhism.
  • He found that there was suffering and death, which is part of life.
  • He went to live with the monks to learn the true meaning of life.
  • He gained nirvana and enlightenment through meditation.

R is for Reincarnation

  • Reincarnation is part of many religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
  • Reincarnation is when you are reborn into another body in your next life.
  • You couldn't move up in the caste system in your first, but you could be reincarnated into a different caste if you had good karma.

  • They are the highest part of the caste system.

  • Om is a "practice that combines the power and attention of meditation with the deeply human, deeply felt", and connected experience with peace and life.
  • It is part of the Hindu and Buddha religion, both meditate and say Om.

N is for Nirvana

  • Nirvana is the state of perfect peace.
  • To achieve nirvana you must meditate and clear your mind.
  • Nirvana is mostly associated with Buddhism.

L is for Literature

  • The Indians wrote Literature in Sanskrit.
  • They wrote poems in praise to their gods.
  • They wrote epics, stories, poems, dramatic poetry, and more!

M is for Monsoons

  • Monsoons bring rain/ storms to fertilize the soil.
  • May through September bring wet monsoons, and October through April bring dry monsoons.
  • Dry monsoon time is basically when there is very little rain, bringing a drought affecting the farmers greatly.

K is for Karma

  • If you do good things, be smart and aware, you'll get good karma, and good things will happen to you back.
  • If you do stupid or bad things, you'll get bad karma, and bad things will happen to you back
  • Both Hindu and Buddha Religion believed in Karma.

J is for Jewelry

  • Jewelry was crafted very carefully, made to be worn anywhere on the body.
  • The very first diamonds were mined in India.
  • Jewelry was made out of many materials such as seeds, clay, flowers, bones, stone, and wood.

  • The Indus River Valley is located in a bit of Pakistan and Northwestern India.
  • Everyone wanted to live there because the land was great for farming!
  • Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa were located in the Indus River Valley.

H is for Hinduism

  • Hinduism is a religion that believed in Gods and the Caste System.
  • Some people say it is the oldest religion in the world.
  • The holy Bible for the religion is called the Vedas.
  • They believed in Dharma.

G is for Gods/Goddesses

  • Gods in Ancient India were meant to be worshiped and represent something that they could not explain.
  • Only the Hindu religion had Gods.
  • There were 330 thousand Gods/Goddesses!!!

F is for Founder

  • Siddhartha Gautama was the founder of Buddhism.
  • Arayns were the first people to and settle in Ancient India.
  • A founder is someone who 'finds' a place or object and claims it for the first time.

  • Enlightenment is what Buddha found when meditating, to find perfect peace.
  • You achieve enlightenment by finding the truth about life and you stop being reborn.
  • It's about peace, wisdom, accomplishment, and life.

C is For Caste System

  • The caste system was broken up into 4 major classes of people based on there wealth and jobs.
  • The lowest class: Dalits, had the worst job, and were known as the untouchables
  • The highest class of the caste system is the Brahmin, even higher than the actual rulers. There is only one, also the priests.
  • The main 4 is divided into 3,000 and those 3,000 castes are divided into 25,000 castes in the caste system.

D is For The Dharma Wheel

  • The Dharma wheel is also known as the 8 fold path.
  • You can also Teach Dharma, (to get good Karma).
  • The Dharma wheel teaches about life, truth, and all the good thing about life: the 8 aspects of life.

  • There were 2 major different religions in India.
  • The game of Chess was invented in India.
  • Harappan and Mohenjo-Daro were 2 major cities in Ancient India, out of the many 1500 cities.
