3. The people cry out in their oppression
4. YHWH sends a judge to deliver the people
5. People are faithful for a time then fall into apostasy

Judges
- "Judges" is actually not the best word to
describe these "rulers"
- probably a better translation would be "chieftans"
- This book provides us with some well known stories like those of Gideon and Samson
- It also provides us some less well known stories that are troubling like those of Jepthah and the story of a Levite and his concubine
- In terms of structure, the book could be thought of a one long play on the same type scene
