Braces

  • Braces put pressure on your teeth to make them come closer together aka making them straighter.

WHO invented it and when was it invented?

  • David Evans used a gold band that was used for Etruscan women that still had teeth after deaths
  • The beginning of the 17th century, Matthaeus G. Purmann made wax for braces to take impression.
  • 18th century, Pierre Fauchard made a horseshoe shape strip of metal with regular sized holes that fits around teeth.
  • Brackets: using special glue that holds them in place.
  • Arch wire: is thin medal line that connects each bracket and puts pressure on teeth.
  • Rubber bands: colored (now) that holds the brackets and wire.
  • They used stainless steel to replace the gold and silver, it was the most popular choice to use for wires.

  • Pierre Fauchard: born 1678 in Saint-Denis-de-Gastines, France and died March 22nd, 1761 in Paris, France.
