The Falklands war

The UK

April 2, 1982 – June 14, 1982

Argentinian perspective

Falkland Islands

Argentina saw the Falklands as an area which belonged to them as they were closer compared to Britain

British Perspective

Another assumption is that they saw the Falklands as a way to improve their economy because of the larege oil fields surrounding the Falklands.

The British saw the islands are being invaded and would protect their land from any invading forces. Namely Argentina in this case.

Falklands War

The Falklands War was a ten week war between Argentina and Britain that started on Friday 2 April 1982 and ended on 14 June 1982 when Argentina surrendered. The reason why it started is because Argentina captured the Falklands Island while it was under the reign of Great Britain therefore starting the war.

How Geography played a part in the war

Was created as an Angelican Christian country

April 2, 1982 – June 14, 1982

Geography played an important part in the war as since the Falklands is an island in the South Atlantic Ocean the ocean slows down movement. The Falklands Island was a lot closer to Argentina being the fact that the UK is 13,000km away from it and Argentina is a lot closer. The distance between Argentina and The Falklands is 2,000 km.The tall mountains gave an advantage for shooting, but slow down infantry and vehicles. The cold weather made it difficult for both armies to maneuver.

Following that there are also other religions such as Roman Catholicism including Islam and Buddhism

Biodiversity:

The Falkland Islands are a biogeographical part of the mild Antarctic zone, with strong connections to the flora and fauna of Patagonia in South America. Land birds are most of the Falklands’ avifauna(birds); 63 species breed on the islands, including 16 endemic species. There is also abundant arthropod diversity on the islands. The Falkland's flora consists of 163 native vascular species. The islands' only native terrestrial mammal, the Warrah, was hunted to extinction by European settlers. The Falklands are treeless and have a wind-resistant vegetation predominantly composed of a variety of dwarf shrubs.
