Liking a post is finding someones tweet that you find cool, intresting, or funny so you like it.(You're also able to like your own tweets.) The tweet you like won't show up on your home page but will show up on liked tweets that people can click and look at the tweets you have liked. When you like someones tweet the person will be notified.
A retweet is someones tweet that you again found cool, intresting, or funny so they "retweeted it". A retweet is like "reposting" someones tweet because it will show up on your page and above it will say "you retweeted" and the persons tweet that you retweeted will get notified.
Notifacations
Notifications are getting notified when someone likes, retweets, or quotes your tweets. The notificatin symbol will be at the bottom row along with the home button, messages, and your profile symbol.

A direct message (DM) is a message that you send to someone that is private that only you and that person can see. The direct message button is on the row along the bottom.
