Lets say Ted is not able to focus on his work because of his social media notifications .

After identifying his obstacle he remembered 20 second rule . He turned off his notifications & allocated a particular time to respond to them . This allowed him to achieve the best performance of his work .

The activation energy is the new habit creation we’re addressing three areas ; time, choices and mental and physical effort.

Likewise, if we raise barriers to activation for negative activities, we can break those habits.

If we can lower barriers to activation for positive activities, we can begin to form habits.

How to Turn Bad Habits into Good Ones by Minimizing Barriers to Change

Think of the positive changes you want to make personally and professionally . The less energy it takes to kick-start a positive habit, the more likely that habit will stick.

Willpower alone is insufficient to make the right choices.

The 20-Second Rule is based on our natural gravitation to activities which are easy to get started on. It's been proven that we will do something less satisfying than something else solely because it's easier to get going.
