  • Prohibited practice of religions in the workplace, school, or other public spaces to avoid having any one religion take a dominant influence on their society
  • Banned the wearing of religious symbols in public (From crucifixes/crosses to burkas (recently, burkinis) to jewish skullcaps)

Pros of Secularism today

  • In Renaissance times, secularism was defined at its most basic as the separation of religion and state

As secularism took hold during the Renaissance, a prioritization of focusing on success in the "material realm" over focusing on the afterlife (and God) was created, leading to many adopting the ideal that religion should have less of a presence and influence in society

Now that many governmental systems do not rely on religion...

Many different cultures and religions can flourish within states and countries all over Europe and the rest of the World, though it seems to do the best in First-World democratic countries (Ex. Canada, Australia, Finland...)

Quality of life has increased (longer life span, less lifestyle restrictions, more freedoms)
