Race is defined as the categorization of humans based on physical traits. It is recorded every ten years when the US Census Bureau sends out surveys.

McDonalds has become international. So whatever nation (with popular culture) you go to for vacation there will be McDonalds.

This is a map of San Antonio. we can infer that much of it population was, at one time Spanish Catholic and was colonized by Spanish Catholic people, because it has SAN in its title.

Ethnicity is defined as a group of people bound by common ancestry and culture. Similar to race, the US Census Bureau takes a survey of this every ten years. However, the two are very different and have very different meanings.

Uniformity is also a side effect of popular culture. It's why so many places have McDonalds, it creates a uniformity.

This is a sample question from the US Census Bureau about race.

Topography, or place name, can be used to identify parts of the residents culture. For example, cities that begin with San have a primarily Spanish Catholic origins and probably many spanish speakers.

This is a sample question from the US Census Bureau. there is a lot of controversy about what the US Bureau can and should ask about ethnicity and race.

Popular culture includes many skyscrapers, which you have to modify the environment to make.

Urban areas have many ethnic clusters. For example, part of New York City is called Chinatown.

Cultural transition zones are places near the boundaries between two different areas that may have similar characteristics. For example there are likely more spanish speakers in Texas than in Montana because Texas is closer to the southern boarder.

This map shows where high concentrations are in different areas of New York.

This map shows the concentration of spanish speakers in the United States. You can see there are higher concentrations near the southern boarder. This is because there is a cultural transition zone with mexico, where spanish is the primary language.

L

Landscapes change because popular culture modifies it.
