June-August, 1944

D-Day, or Operation Overlord, led by General Eisenhower, was the largest land, sea, and air battle in all of Europe. The Allies had the total of 150,000 vehicles, 100,000 tons of equipment, and 850,000 land units landing on the beaches of Normandy, France. The Allies priority on D-Day was to begin working their way through France and Europe, liberating and attacking the remaining German forces and cities.

In June of 1944, before the invasion of Normandy, over 156,000 U.S., British, and Canadian troops mobilize their strategies and forces on the English Channel. Also added with 5,000 ships, and 11,000 aircraft also waiting for go-time on the beaches codenamed: Juno, Gold, Sword, Utah, and Omaha. At about 6:30 a.m., the invasion of Western Europe began. Never before has another event like this one ever occurred.

D-Day had the most casualties than any other recorded battle during World War II. There was an estimated 10,000 casualties recorded on the first day. Including naval vessels and aircraft. Though the total number of German casualties is not known, there is an estimate of 4,000 to 9,000 German casualties.

The Allies fought continuously on the beaches of Normandy. After 3 months of fighting, the Allies began overwhelming the Germans; which soon forced the Germans to retreat into central Europe and France. Once the Germans were all out of Normandy, the Allies set up there forces to begin the final invasion into Europe. The Allies were then at the brink of a liberated Europe.
