Water is only a pure substance if you see the sign H2O, which means only has water molecules in it.Most countries now have fluoride in their water (which helps keep teeth healthy) and some chemicals to get rid of bad things like dirt.

Q.3: Where does our water come from?

Answer to question 2:

Sydney waters website says water can come from:

~Oceans

~Catchments

~Ground water

~Rainwater tanks

~Farm dams

~Dams

and

~Stormwater harvesting

Sydney water is a big supplier for Sydneys water.

Here is some facts:

~Is owned by the New South Wales government

~Has around 3,000 staff members

~Supplies drinking water and recycled to around 4.6 million people

~Removes and also treats waste water

~Looks after storm drains

But why is Sydney Water really important?

"We deliver and treat water, and remove wastewater, in ways that are sustainable and make Sydney a liveable city."

Sydney water is a trusted and reliable company which serves 4.6 million people and covers almost everything in the water service (example; Storm drains,Dam water etc.)

Q.4: How is raw water treated into drinking water?

Q.5: What happens to our waste water?

Sydney water buys 'raw' water from Sca (Sydney catchment authority). This is mainly from Warragamba dam.

The water is then sent to one of the nine filtrtion plants that Sydney Water owns.

Wastewater is used water from schools, homes, offices and all buildings with water systems. The used water exits down drains, toilets and sinks.

Wastewater is pumped through to a wastewater treatment plant and is treated to the point it is safe enough to be returned to the environment.

It can be used for

~watering sportsfields or golf courses

~flushing toilets or watering gardens in homes

~manufacturing or cleaning in industries like BlueScope Steel in Wollongong

~replacing water released from Warragamba Dam into the Hawkesbury-Nepean River to maintain a healthy river environment.
