1.1 Selecting ideas showing an understanding of social and cultural influences on drama

1.2 Selecting and applying skills and knowledge appropriate to the selected role

1.3 Carrying out your selected role effectively

P8: MESSAGE AND TARGET AUDIENCE

CHARACTER RESEARCH FOR Friday 9th March

Conduct some research to help you portray your character convincingly.

Find out TWO things which will help you to develop your character/dialogue. For example:

"Research Source: NHS.gov.uk

I found out that signs of depression to look out for are a low mood and unhappiness, with tearfulness or irritability that may not be related to anything specific.

This will help me develop my character/dialogue as I will look tearful and snap at other characters, but when people ask me why I am upset I will create dialogue to show that I don't really know why I feel so bad."

MESSAGE = the principle or 'moral of the story'

This should apply to as wide an audience as possible and not be too specific.

Weak example: "Don't talk to wolves!"

Better example: "Don't talk to strangers..."

TARGET AUDIENCE - Your target audience is S3 pupils.

JUSTIFICATION - WHY is your drama suitable or relevant to S3 aged pupils? Refer to plot/themes of your drama.

P 8: EXPERIMENTING WITH FORM AND STRUCTURE

FORM = the way in which the drama will be performed or produced. This drama will take the form of IMPROVISED PLAY.

Justification - What are the advantages of improvising a drama rather than writing a script?

STRUCTURE - The order in which you tell the story.

Put all the main events onto index cards.

DO you want to use LINEAR or NON-LINEAR STRUCTURE.

Justification - to create more tension?

Get the attention of the audience? Add mystery? To keep the plot simple?

evaluation

p9: Your Character

characterisation or rehearsal techniques

Reasons to choose a role:

You need to take on a bigger role.

You will find it a challenge due to personality/age etc

You are good at playing this type of character - explain how/why.

Possible purposes of your character:

To create tension/conflict

To create contrast with another character.

To move the plot forward/give important information.

These are techniques used to help you to develop your drama and character further.

You will have just 8 minutes to try each activity so choose carefully which scene or character you want to focus on.

PLENARY: How did one of these techniques help you today?

How will this enhance your character/drama?

Q1: Your role = ACTING

Make bullet points of all your responsibilities as an actor from the start of the process to the end.

Q2: This is all about your ideas. You must personalise this by referring to examples you gave for the creation of your drama.

Q3: This is more about how well you got on with others in your group.

Q4 - You need to give examples of how you used voice and movement to show your character and how effective this was.

Q5 - 2 Specific strengths you had.

Q6 - 2 areas you would like to improve.

Q7 Now comment on two others from your group - their contribution and final performance
