WHY

Criminal Result

Richard Ramirez's father had a horrible temper and abused his family often causing Ramirez to be frightened of him.

Ramirez was on death penalty for decades but not executed because of how complicated his case was.

Ramirez had an uncle in the army who showed him Polaroid photographs of soldiers he killed from other armies.

A victim's house. He carved the Devil sign above bed.

While waiting for his execution he married to a lady named Doreen who believe Richard was innocence.

As Ramirez got older he became a Satan Worshiper.

How he got caught

Ramirez was in a hispanic area in Los Angles looking for a car to steal.

After two attempts and a death threat to a woman, the men from the neighborhood chased him and beat him down.

During the chase one of the men recognized Ramirez from pictures in the newspaper and called the police.

Charged with...

The two cars he attempted to steal.

Ramirez 26 was charged with

14 murders and 31 other felonies

related to murder, rape, and robbery spree.

Because of the complexity of his case the state Supreme Court didn't hear Ramirez's first appeal until 2006.

The court rejected his claims, but additional state and federal appeals were expected to take many more years.

Evidence that was presented were fingerprints, a shoe print linked to Ramirez, possession of victim's items, and 8 eyewitnesses.

Ramirez was sentenced to death 19 times. However he recently died of complications of blood cancer on at age 53 on June 7, 2013.
