Quantitative Data

Learning Objectives

Quantitative:

- Heart rate monitor

- Stopwatches

- Meter ruler

Qualitative:

- Interviews

- Observations

Data that can be quantified as a number, e.g. time in seconds, or goals scored.

There is no opinion expressed (qualitative); it is a fact.

- Fitness tests produce numerical scores.

- Heart rate is measured in beats per minutes, graph plots

- Engagement patterns in social groups, numerical amounts or percentages

- An understanding of the types of data.

- How data is collected.

- Ability to present data in various formats

- How to analyse data

Qualitative Data

Bar Chart

Line Chart

The use of rectangular bars which show the data quantities.

The use of plotted points (markers) to show data, which are joined together by a line.

Data which is subjective, involving opinions relating to quality of performance rather than the quantity.

Ability to present data

Opinions on:

- Commericalisation in sport.

- Extrinsic motivation.

- What a diet should contain

Transferring information into three main formats:

- Plotting a basic line chart

- Plotting a basic bar chart

- Labelling the X and Y axis correctly

Labelling Y & X

- X Axis: Shows the independent variable (the bottom horizontal)

- Y Axis: Shows the dependent variable (the left vertical side)
