RIVER WATER DIVERTED INTO COUNTRIES

DANGER

Water Disappearing

The famous biblical Jordan River is truly in danger of turning into a wasteland. How did this once fabulous river become so disgusting? Well, one problem is that the water is being diverted into neighboring countries, which include the countries of Israel, Syria, and Palestinian territories. Researchers say that 98% of the Jordan river was diverted into the countries. The 3 countries are all fighting over the same water source, which led to water being scarce.

The water cycle also is a effect on the Jordan River. The river first started drying up on May 2010. Ever since then, there has been little rainfall, and an increase in evaporation. Since there is little rainfall, countries have been competing for water (Headline 1). The water level of the River Jordan has decreased a meter per year.

ISRAEL DOING WHAT THEY CAN

SOLUTIONS

Israel is focusing on another body of water though, the Mediterranean Sea. They have set up 3 desalination plants near the sea to also provide water to the cities. So now, it is up to the countries of the Middle East to save the glorious Jordan River.

The countries of Israel, Syria, and Palestinian territories have been working on finding solutions so the almighty Jordan River will stay for millions of years. They made up the "Red Dead" project, a project that is meant to help 2 issues at a time, slowly filling up the Dead Sea, and supply cities and towns with desalinated water.
