Rabbits belong to a mammal group called Lagomorpha (rabbits, hares and Pikas). Research of fossils has shown this group had evolved from Asia. In the 5th century rabbits began to domesticate, by monks in France. In the 19th century rabbits were only to be pure-blooded, for the fur and meat. During the World Wars, the British and American government encouraged people to keep rabbits. This was so the people could have fur and meat. In the 12th century Europe farmed rabbits also for the meat and fur.
