Prussia

Reign of Frederick William

1640-1688

Wars of Frederick

1757-1764

Frederick William the Great (Elector of Brandenburg) came to realize that Prussia's territory was not safe, therefore he created the Prussian army, which became the fourth largest in Europe. Just like an absolute monarch, Frederick William set up the General War Commissariat to levy taxes and give him control of the state.

Frederick II gained control of Silesia which sparked the Seven Years War. In attempt to save Prussia, he commanded his Prussian army in a battle against the Austrians under rule of Prince Charles of Loraine and came out with a victory. Absolute monarchs hold a great amount of power, just like Frederick the Great, which helped him win the Seven Years War.
