Nina Bawden wrote books for Children and Adults. She remembered her childhood very clearly so she got inspired to write novels that were similar to her life as a child or as a grown-up. Carrie's War was inspired by her evacuation and War Time life. She was also an evacuee when she was a child and moved to Wales from London, just like her book 'Carrie's War'. Nina continued to write both for adults and children over the years. Many of her children's books have been filmed, or adapted for television and all have been widely translated into many languages including Russian, Chinese and Japanese. With over a thousand copies of her books Worldwide, Nina was one famous and popular Author

  • Nina Bawden attended Somerville College, Oxford.
  • There she studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
  • She always liked writing and came top of the class in English.
  • She wrote her first book for Adults after gaining a degree.
  • She always received A*, A+, A, and B's in English.

1. Nina Bawdens husband died in a Potters Bar Rail crash. She was also badly injured from the crash so she wrote a book about her experience of the incident.

2. Nina Bawden never planned on being an author, it just happened. She always wanted to be an explorer and a Journalist although she always thought she was a writer in school.

3. Nina Bawden was a Widow and at the age of 78 she became diagnosed and suffered with dementia.

4. The death of her eldest son, Nicholas ("Niki"), aged 33, in 1981 was the other tragic loss of Bawden's life. He committed suicide after suffering from heart disease.

5. She won over 15 awards
