“Don’t assume that it is too late to get involved.” (p. 18)

Mitch is describing how Morrie was before the first interview with Ted Koppel and he listed some of the aphorisms Morrie wrote down. (CONTEXT) Morrie started coming up with his own aphorisms to help people get through life and would write them anywhere he could. Mitch listed some of these before the interview including “Don't assume that it is too late to get involved.” (QUOTATION) Morrie does not think people should give up on life even if they have some kind of disability. This picture shows a disabled man being involved in sports, not wasting his life in a regular wheel chair. (EXPLANATION)

“What if today were my last day on earth?” (p. 64)

“Don’t let go too soon, but don’t hang on too long.” (p. 162)

Mitch was wondering if Morrie would want to change anything from his life. (CONTEXT) Morrie responds by saying “It's what everyone worries about, isn't it? What if today were my last day on earth?” (QUOTATION) This picture shows something on our bucket list. It shows a person skydiving, which is what some people may want to do if they were going to die soon. (EXPLANATION)

Morrie is talking to Ted Koppel during an interview and told him that he wanted to die with serenity. (CONTEXT) Morrie shared his aphorism about hanging on too long or too short. As Morrie was hanging on, even though his body decayed, his personality shone even brighter. (QUOTATION) This picture shows a man hanging from a cliff. He shouldn’t let go and fall too quickly, but he also shouldn’t hang there forever. Like this man, Morrie shouldn’t try and fight this disease too long. (EXPLANATION)

There is no foundation, no secure ground, upon which people may stand today if it isn’t the family. (p. 91)

During “The Fifth Tuesday”, Morrie and Mitch talk about how family is very important and without them, you don’t have much at all. (CONTEXT) Morrie says there is no foundation for people to stand if it isn’t family. (QUOTATION) This means that love is supremely important and without it, people will perish. This picture shows unsecure ground upon which a house stands. (EXPLANATION)

“ . . . if you really want it, then you’ll make your dream happen.” (p. 47)

Mitch flashes back to his sophomore year and is talking to Morrie about his dream to become a piano player. (CONTEXT) Morrie tells Mitch that “if you really want it, then you’ll make your dream happen.” (QUOTATION) This picture shows a little boy looking up and reaching for the sky. To reach a dream, reach beyond the sky to make it happen. (EXPLANATION)
