The Aztec Empire was a culture that flourished because of their irrigation and architectural systems. The Aztec downfall happened for many reasons though. The Aztec downfall happened because of drought, internal conflict between the tribe because of so many sacrifices happening, irrigation system failure, and diseases like smallpox.

Aztec Irrigation

The Aztec temples would sometimes be built in a part of a city that was dedicated to a certain religious god, the Aztec people that would go to their certain religious area and prey for good things. There would even sometimes be monuments built for a certain god.

THE END

The Aztec houses were much different than the modern day houses, they were made out of straw, lime plaster, wood, soil, sand, lime clay, and bricks. Most of the houses were either peaked or flat-topped. Now all of our modern day houses are peaked. The houses also helped with their food, the people with a higher place in the empire, would have a garden for their resource of food.

Part of the reason the Aztec Empire fell was because of a drought that caused irrigation system failure that they relied deeply on. They also had lots of internal conflict that was because of all of the sacrifices being made because of their religion, but some didn't believe that the religion was right. So they joined the Spaniards to fight the Aztec. The Aztec soon deteriorated and then fell.

* Mythical rather factual

* Aztec people were originally from south of Tenochtitlan. They left their homeland due to a drought.

* When they arrived in Tenochtitlan it was not empty

* Tenochtitlan was occupied by the Millennias when the Aztecs arrived; the Aztec and the Millennia co-existed for some time

* The Aztecs killed a Millennia princess as a sacrifice, and war broke out

* The Aztecs lost the war, though they would later reclaim Tenochtitlan as their own

The Aztec's irrigation system was mainly made out of chinampas, a medium sized rectangles that were thirty meters long by two and a half meters long. These were constructed so there would be many of them with canals running through to grow algae as well as the plants. These small offshore gardens had woven fencing around them and sometimes there were willows for the fencing. The chinampas were lined parallel and were only a few feet off of the ground.
