Situational Irony

Irony

In situational irony something takes places that is the opposite of what we expect to happen.

Example: People note the irony when the fire station burns down.

Irony- is a literary element that involves a contradiction or a contrast of some kind

Dramatic Irony

Dramatic irony occurs when the audience knows something that the someone in the story doesn't.

Example: When the Witch, disguised as an old lady, offers Snow White the apple.

Verbal Irony

In Verbal irony, the speaker or character says something

that contradicts what he or she actually means.

Sarcasm is a type of verbal irony.
