Why Are Sphynx Cats Hairless?

The sphynx cat is a hairless breed of cat developed through selective breeding. This was started in the 1960's. This breed of cat is known for it's lack of fur, though it is not truely hairless the sphynx cat has little fine hairs on its skin.

Not all cats purr. A cat's purr begins in its brain. A repetitive vibration in the brain sends a message to the throat muscles, causing them to twitch at a rate of 25-150 vibrations per second. This causes the vocal cords to separate when the cat inhales and exhales producing a "purr" sound.

Interesting Facts

Did you know that cats are sometimes born lactose intolerance, but thier owners still give them milk! They think that milk is good for them when it is actually bad.

Cats do not fear water, they are actually good swimmers. They just don't like being in water because it is hard for them to dry properly. The water might also remove oils and cause irritation to the skin.
