1835- Graduated from the college of Montreal and joined the radical group Fils de la liberte
1837- Cartier fought with Wolfred Nelson and the rebels as they successfully routed Colonel Charles Gore's force
1838- Returned and practiced law in Montreal
1840- Had been nullified by the Act of Union
1841- Became active in politics
1843- Was the secretary of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society
1848- Was elected as a Liberal Reformer in Vercheres
1857-58- Served as co-premier with John A Macdonald
1858-62- Pushed the movement towards confederation
1861- Moved to Montreal East after the coalition with the Montreal Conservitives
1864- Cartier led the Canadian great confederation of all colonial Provinces
1868-69- He and William McDougal negotiated in London for the transfer of the HBC territory of Rupert's land and the North Western Territory to the Dominion
1869- Played a key role in securing Rupert's land
1870- Helped in drafting the Manitoba Act
1871- Negotiated the Terms of Union of British Columbia, which passed this year
1872- Rival Railway promoters who wanted to get into the trade of the Canadian Northwest by railway lines crossing the border, they heavily financed Cartier's political rivals leading to Cartiers defeat.
1873- The American promoters engineered the release in April
1873- Was extremely ill with Brights Disease and dies on May 20th
