People will browse someone's Facebook page, or any other site used by that person some people may use a program, such as Reppify, to rank their employee based on their activity and what they are involved in.

Facebook has become a large part of the process an employer goes through to hire a new staff member because now to find out what an employee likes or what things they’re involved in all they have to do is look them up on Facebook ro other social networking sites.

But programs like Reppify take a person’s Facebook, MySpace, and or other profile then adds together all of that person’s likes, dislikes, pages, posts, pictures, etc and ranks them on a scale of one to ten.

Based on these numbers or facts, that are found on a potential employee’s profile page an employer may choose to or not to hire them especially if they’re a minor; which is when pictures of false alcoholic drinks, or other illegal substances for a minor, affect an employer’s decision.

“Facebook 800 million users, LinkedIn 120 million users, MySpace 100 million users” (Wikipedia) these are the statics of the number of people, in the world, using the three major social networking sites Facebook, LinkedIn, and MySpace.

Social networking sites have now become a part of everyday life so much so that some people will spend their entire day on Facebook or other social sites.

Society has almost become dependent on social sites to the point where sites, like Facebook, have begun to include games for their users to play so they don’t get bored while checking posts and links.

However, there are benefits to using these sites such as being able to find people that a user has lost contact with years ago, people who they know long distance, and family members.

But this technology can also be used as a way to spy on other people or gain knowledge that someone, whom the user does not know, should not have access to but the user left up by accident.

Protecting information from this technology can be a hard thing to do but fortunately sites will generally offer privacy settings so that people who a user is not friends with cannot access their personal information.

However, people also have the option to not create an account or if someone has already made the account some sites allow a user to delete your account so that the former user's page is removed.

Unfortunately though, generally, once a piece of information or picture is on the internet it cannot be removed which is why when someone posts a photo or writes something they need to be careful about it and make sure it will not offend anyone.

How it Works

Conclusion

Privacy loss, and what results it produces, would not be such a large issue if people were more careful, with their information, on social networking sites.
