PURPOSE:
This study aims to create a trash bin that could shred and compact wastes inside the bin itself for easier waste disposal. The benefits of shredded wastes, shredders, compactors, also the inevitable generation of waste guided the researchers in utilizing shredder and compactor as a main component in materializing a 2-in-1 Trash Bin: Built-in Compactor and Pedal-Powered Shredders. This study is undertaken to incorporate a trash shredder and compactor in waste disposal management and to help ordinary households to properly dispose of the waste generated in their property especially the non-biodegradable ones and to overcome the problem in waste disposal.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to create a trash bin that could shred and compact wastes inside the bin itself for easier waste disposal. Specifically, this study seeks to find answers to the following questions:
1. What is the efficiency of the design of the 2-in-1 Trash Bin: Built-in Compactor and Pedal-Powered Shredder?
2. What is the level of acceptability of the 2-in-1 Trash Bin: Built-in Compactor and Pedal-Powered Shredder in terms of:
a. Design and Construction; and
b. Functionality
3. How will the moist trash affect the efficiency of trash shredder?

Scope and Delimitation
This study is focused on designing a trash bin that can turn garbage into smaller pieces by shredding and compacting it for easier waste disposal. The system will use shredder and compactor as main components. Shredding will make it easier to cut garbage, minimizing energy use. The design will take a month for planning, two months for making the system and two months for testing. The proposed design of the trash bin is limited to solid waste materials found in household except hard materials such as glass, rocks, wood, and other hard materials.

HOW IT WORKS:
Compactor:
The lever serves as the control of the compactor. When pushed down, compacting begins. When pulled up, the plate settles at the cover. When entirely pulled out, the cover opens.
Pedal-Powered Shredder:
The pedal is be the power source of the shredder. The pedal is connected to a sprocket through chains. The chains are connected to the driven gear, and the driven gear is connected to the shaft of the shredder using belt drive. The shaft has a connecting gear that makes the two shafts rotate inward. The rotation is reversible in case of shredder malfunction such as the stuck of a hard material on the blade.
