25 to 29 years of age: 3734

30-65 years of age: 48084

An estimate of 40-60% will respond to screening invitation

Approximately 20% of tests will have some type of abnormality

Logistics

Exceptions to screening

  • History of a total hysterectomy for a benign pathology
  • If not clear in the history: Ask the LAB -> Ask for the surgical report -> ask the gynecologist who performed the operation -> examine the patient -> refer the patient

  • Never had sex before

Screening more often

  • Immunosupression
  • History of cervical precancer or cancer

When to stop with screening

If a 65 year old woman has had 2 normal screening tests (PAP tests and/or hrHPV assays) in the past 10 years, with the last test performed less than 5 years ago and she is not at high risk of acquiring cervical cancer, she does not need to undergo screening anymore.

Screening- vs diagnostic test

Screening are tests that look for diseases before you have symptoms. Screening tests can find diseases early, when they're easier to treat.

A diagnostic test is any kind of medical test performed to aid in the diagnosis or detection of disease, injury or any other medical condition.
