What were some similarities between three civilizations factors for collapse?

Some similarities between these three civilization's factors for collapse was that they all had internal problems, they had to deal with disease, and they had a large amount of enemies.

Is our own civilization at risk of collapse?

Introduction

I don't think our civilization is at risk of collapse for now. We don't have to fear any major diseases because we have many medicines that work against diseases. We don't have many internal problems so that is good. But I do fear our enemies who are becoming more powerful every second.

Factor #1

The Inca

A civil war began in the Inca civilization at around 1530. After the Inca king died, his two sons Atahualpa and Huascar fought to become the new ruler. At the end Atahualpa won but both armies were weakened. This helped the Spanish defeat the Incas.

This presentation will examine and compare the factors that led the once mighty Mesoamerican civilizations to fall. We will also see if these factors relate to our own civilizations and if it is at risk of collapsing.

So why did the Inca Civilization collapse?

Factor #2

Three reasons that led to the Inca Civilization's collapse...

1.Internal Problems.

2. Disease.

3. Advanced Spanish weapons.

Disease also weakened the Inca empire. The Spanish brought many diseases like smallpox into the empire. This killed many people and it gave the Spanish the opportunity to defeat the Incas.

The Inca Civilization didn't last long. They began in 1438 and ended in 1537. But they did not need a lot of time to expand. They had a whole lot of territory by the 1500s. The Spanish arrived in 1532 and killed their ruler Atahualpa. This led to the Inca's demise.

Factor #1

The Aztecs always fought against their neighboring tribes. This made them get many enemies. The Spanish took advantage of this and began an alliance with the Aztec's enemies. Together the Spanish and the Indian tribes defeated Tenochtitlan. This was a huge blow to the Aztecs and this caused their downfall.

Factor #3

When the Spanish arrived to Peru they brought with them some very deadly weapons. They brought cannons, guns, and swords. These were very advanced weapons compared to the Inca's weapons. The Spanish used these weapons to defeat the Inca.

Factor #2

Disease also caused the Aztec Empire to fall. The Spanish arrived to Mexico in 1519, they brought with them a deadly weapon, disease. Smallpox was one disease that the Spanish brought with them. These diseases killed and weakened a large amount of the Aztec population. The Aztecs did not have the strength to defend themselves. This helped the Spanish defeat the Aztecs.

Why did the Aztec Civilization Fall?

The Aztecs

The Aztec Civilization fell because of three things..

1.Enemies.

2.Disease.

3.Lack of supplies.

Why did the Maya, Inca, and Aztec civilizations fall?

Factor #3

Factor #1

Just like the Maya the Aztecs lacked resources. The Spanish used the geography of the land to their advantage. They cut off drinking water and supplies going into Tenochtitlan. Thousands of Aztecs died of starvation because of this.

Climate Change also might have caused the collapse of the Maya Civilization. The Maya suffered a very dry period that lasted about 150 years. This made the land drier and harder. This dry climate would of made farming crops harder. This would limit the amount of food the Maya had.

The Aztec Empire began around the 1000s and collapsed in 1521. War and trade helped the Aztecs grow. They gained a great area of land thanks to warfare. The Aztec empire's capitol, Tenochtitlan, stood on top of an island in a lake. It is said to have been five times the size of London! Truly a feast for the eyes.

The Maya

The Maya, Inca, and Aztec civilizations collapsed because they had internal problems, disease, large enemies, and a limited amount of resources.

Factor #2

So why did the Maya Civilization fall?

The lack of resources had great influence over the collapse of the Maya Empire. As the empire grew, the Maya would not be able to make enough food to feed the whole population. This caused many people to die. Some people left the cities because their needs were not met. This made the Maya population go down until only a few people were left.

Three factors that led the Maya Civilization to fall were...

1.Climate Change.

2.Lack of resources like food.

3.Increased warfare.

Maize was a food that was very common in Mesoamerican Civilizations.

The Maya civilization lasted from 1000 BC. to the mid 900s AD. This gigantic civilization had over 40 cities with about 5,000 to 50,000 people living in each. The Maya civilization was a bustling trade city. They traded many things like obsidian and cacao. Trade made them very wealthy. They used this wealth to build temples and palaces.

Factor #3

Increased warfare was another cause for the Mayan Empire's demise. As we learned before climate change made land harder which made it more difficult for farmers to make crops. It is possible that the Maya and neighboring tribes fought each other for better land. This could of caused the fall of the Maya Civilization.
