Interview with Marjane

Soundtrack For Persepolis

Mohamed Mournir-Ezzai

This song I chose is not particular for one part but for the parts were revolution is intensified for example first part of the veil, the bicycle and the water cell. The song itself is originally about the Egypt evoluiton. By choosing this song I wanted to give the feel of Iran and the spirit of revolution. The agressiviness of the mob and people's will for fighting for what they believe in which is the main theme of the book

Zombie-The Cranberries

Addicted To Pain-Alter Bridge

This song is for the part where Marjane drastically changes, she tries to forget her family and Iran. Even though she wanted to foget everything her dreams kept it alive. This song is basically screaming Marjane's subcouncious.

I chose this song for Marjane's rebellious teenage state. It has a constrast with Marjane's surronding war state and her adaptation. The on going fight of

the revolution and Marjane's inner

conflicts pour out of the song by

it's high tones

Red-Pieces

Angel of Death-Asrian Von Siegler

Marjane is thrown out, left

alone on the streets. The musşc

is fit for Marjane's stumbling

around and lying on the streets

Not fitting with the depressive

mode, the song itself is not slow

which is unexpected, it gives hope t

to the viewerss

This is for Niloufer's death. Music has no lyrics so that Marjane's monologue can be the main place and we are not distracted from the main focus by lyrics. With her death Marjane's life changes because her family realizes that it's time to send Marjane from Iran. The song has a sense of weep and mourning almost Marjane mourns for Niloufer again after all these years.

TRAİLER OF THE MOVİE

Strange Fruit-Billie Holiday

We will rock you-Queen

This song is perfect for Marjane's saving herself from depression. She pulls herself together and goes back to school. This song will make you clap for Marjane. Also it's very rhytmic, waking up Marjane and the people watching the movie.

Farzad falls down from the building as saxophone cries for him, for them. This song also continues for the gathering party for him to show life moving and Marjane drinking more than ever to forget.

My process of Soundtrack

I reread the book and watched interviews of Marjane Satrapi in order to almost work with her and see her perspective and her wishes according to the movie. After watching the interviews I chose the scenes I loved. With scenes selected I looked for the tone and emotional sea and pulled out the strongest sense. I used spotify to find

the write musics but some of them I found

from youtube.
