Life was difficult for Albert and Marie. Three of their nine children died in infancy due to diseases such as diphtheria. They also lived through two world wars.

Both Louis Winfield and Mary Maud's parents were born in Canada making me at least a 5th generation Canadian on this side of the family. Ancestors from all other branches at this level of the family tree were born outside of Canada.

Great-great-grandfather Matthew and great-great-grandmother Rachel McCartney were the first ancestors to arrive in Canada (other than the Shannon's who had been here since the 1700s).
