Behaviourism

Both Skinner and Pavlov saw human behaviour as the

direct result of conditioning from the environment

1. Classical Conditioning - through association

2. Operant Conditioning - through

reinforcement

The cause of human behaviour

Psychodynamic

Humanism

Sees the individual as being able to consciously exercise choice and make decisions about his behaviour

through free will.

Humanistic Theorist such as Maslow

suggest we are driven by a natural tendency to

try and fulfill our potential and we consciously

are motivated by the hierarchy of needs.

Freud suggested unconscious forces and

primitive urges drive our behaviour.

Conflicts between our instinctive id and our

moral super ego are balanced and checked

by our ego.

Much of this takes place below our level of

consciousness and our adult behaviour

is rooted in aspects of our psycho-sexual

development as a child.
