Where is Thyroxine created?

Thyroxine is created in the thyroid gland from iodine.

Triidothyronine

Works cited

Triidothyronine is very similar to thyroxine but has far greater potency. It is also a thyroid hormone that affects every part of the body including growth, development, metabolism, body temperature, and heart rate. Triiidothyronine is the active form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine, produced through the feedback loop involving the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland and the thyroid gland.

(TSH)

Thyroid Stimulating hormone or TSH for short is the pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine. Thyroid stimulating hormone is created by the hypothalamus releases a substance called thyrotropin-releasing hormone which signals the pituitary gland to produce TSH. TSH then causes the thyroid gland to produce the two other thyroid hormones Thyroxine and triidothyronine.

Having too much thyroxine

Having too much thyroxine is a condition other wise known as thyrotoxicosis.

How does thyroxine work?

  • swelling at the back of the neck where thyroid gland is located
  • disrupted menstruation cycle
  • increased bowel movements
  • weight loss
  • heat intolerance
  • fatigue
  • irritability

Thydroxide is a hormone secreted into the the blood stream by the thyroid gland

How do thyroid hormones affect muscule tissue?

  • Thyroid hormones majorly affect development of tissues including metabolism in turn this affects body fat levels
  • no direct correlation between muscle tissue and thyroid hormones.

Having too little thyroxine

Your body can naturally produce to little thyroxine, this is a condition called hypothyroidism. This condition can cause problems with development if the individual is young. If the individual is an adult the thyroid defecency can lower a adults metabolism leading to weight gain, memory problems, fatigue, fertility, and muscle stiffness.

Thyroxine

Treatment

Thyroxine is the main hormone that is produced by the thyroid gland from iodine. Iodine is naturally present in foods such as fish. Thyroxine's job is to increase the metabolic rate and thus regulates growth and developments. Metabolic rate is the rate of metabolism in an living organism. Thyroxine affects almost every process in the body including body temperature, growth, digestion, and heart rate.

Treatment for problems with having too much or too little thyroid hormones are treated with increased or decreased thyroid hormones. For patients suffering from hypothyroidism they must take thyroid hormones to replace the ones they are missing using drugs such as Levothyroxine (a Synthroid-synthetic thyroid). For people suffering from thyrotoxicosis patients must remove thyroid hormones by using radioactive iodine, medications, and sometimes surgery.

What are thyroid hormones?

The relationship with thyroid hormones & weight gain

Thyroid hormones main purpose is to regulate the bodies metabolism. Metabolism is all chemical reactions involved in maintaining the bodies homeostasis within the cells of a living organism. Metabolism is the breakdown of molecules to obtain energy and the synthesis of all compounds needed by cells. In the human body metabolism is commonly thought of how the body digests and breaks down food and nutrients. The main thyroid hormones are Thyroxine, Thyroid stimulating hormone, and triiodothyronine.

  • Thyroid hormones majorly affect development of tissues including metabolism and weight gain
  • hyperthyroidism can cause weight loss
  • not enough thyroid hormones can cause weight gain

Thyroid Hormones

How does iodine affect thyroid hormones

How does age affect thyroid hormones production?

  • Iodine is necessary to make thyroid hormones, since your body doesn't naturally make iodine it is essential part of your diet because thyroid hormones cannot be created with out iodine.
  • As a result too much iodine can cause thyrotoxicosis and too little iodine can cause hypothyroidism.

  • pituitary gland reaches maximum size middle age and then gradually becomes smaller
  • thyroid hormone production decreases starting around 20 years old
  • Metabolism decreases with age
  • In some people thyroid hormone production can increase leading to cardiovascular problems
