The Theme of Book 7

Summary of Book 7

While Odysseus is on his way to the Palace of Alcinous, he is stopped by Athena who is disguised as a young girl. Athena puts protection on Odysseus and gives him advice for his journey before he continues to make his way to the palace. Odysseus finds the palace and notices that the residents are holding a festival there. When he sees the queen, he throws himself at her feet and the mist that protected him suddenly dissipates. He explains his situation to the King and Queen and they promise to send him off the next day in a Phaeacian ship.

Odysseus shows honesty in Book 7 of the Odyssey when he explains his situation to the King and Queen. However, he also shows that he would do anything to keep a secret that is important to him. When Arete notices the clothes that he is wearing and becomes suspicious, Odysseus says whatever he can to change her mind.
