Young narrator is having his first crush on his friends' older sister. The young narrator jumps too fast to actions and not think of the outcome of his early actions. Tries to buy something for the girl, but soon realizes that she might not have the same feelings he has for her.
John Updike was a poet, short story writer, and art critic. His most famous works were his "Rabbit" series which follows the life of Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom from adulthood to death. Won the Pulitzer Price for his 2 works of the "Rabbit"series. Also known for "A&P", and "Separating".

James Joyce was an Irish novelist and poet mostly recognized for his collection of short stories in the book called "Dubliners".
A cashier, like me, named Sammy knows the cashier life can get boring at times. In walk these 3 girls that changed his life because he decided to stand up for them when the manager of the store was "scolding"them about the bathing suits they are wearing. He quits his job in hopes to impress the girls. At the end he fails to get their attention.
His works include "Araby", "Eveline","Counterparts", "Grace" and many more.
Both authors have similar styles of writing because they write about relationships either ending, attempting to keep one together, or starting one. Sammy and the unnamed narrator in "Araby" noth jumped to conclusion that they could have gotten something if their actions spoke louder than words.

Eveline is 19 years old and dates a guy by the name of Frank that lives in Argentina. He comes to Dublin, Ireland for every vacation he has and visits Eveline. This is the way they have been dating, but when he tries to bring Eveline with him she cannot go because she would be leaving her family behind for a "stranger".
Richard and Joan are a middle aged married couple who have lost interest in each other over the years but stay together because of their kids. Richard had an idea to divorce Joan because he wanted to be with a neighbor he had interest in and they both agreed, telling the kids was the hard part. The oldest son, Dickie, was ok with it but when Richard was going to give his son a kiss goodbye, Dickie kissed Richard in the mouth and Richard had forgotten why he lost his love for his wife all those years ago.
Eveline and Richard wanted to break a relationship but got reminded that keeping a current one with family is more important than with a stranger or a neighbor.
Eveline has an alcoholic dad that used to beat her when she was younger. She promised her dying mother to keep the family together as long as possible. This is why she did not leave with Frank.
