Having intellectual dominance over other countries allowed USA to win WWII and have a strong advantage over competing powers today. The alliances formed as a result ensures US will stay dominant for a long time.

Dismantling the Preferential trading system made the British Empire too expensive and ensured its collapse. America assumed control of the global economy afterward. America gained a strong sense of nationalism post-war and felt defined as the strongest power in the world.
