At the beginning of Maximum Ride; the novel takes plave in present time California. After the flock infultrates the "School", which is in Death Valley. The story then shifts gears a bit to various locations through out New York.
Max and her five "siblings" escaped from the "School" and besides being 98% human and 2% bird; they are having to dodge Erasers left and right. All while the Flock is trying to get answers about who they are, where did they come from, and whens their expiration date.
The characters that didn't have as much as to do in the novel include:
First major event that takes place is when the Erasers find the Flock at their home and take Angel. Erasers continue to attack the home front even after Max, Fang, and Nudge leave on a mission to rescue Angel. Iggy and Gazzy are leftr to protect themselce using homemade bombs and slicked oil roads. They had one last confrontation at their cabin before fleeing to join the others.

After a high speed chase with the Erasers on their tail; Nudge, Fang, and Max were captures and Iggy and Gazzy were the only ones to escape.Those captured were then taken to the school where they were caged up like animals with Angel. In the process of the white coats transporting them through what was basically a court yard; Iggy and the Gasman come to the rescue. They had manadged to communicate with the hawks; who played a huge key role in saving Angel, Max, Fang, and Nudge from the school once more.

The last major event takes us to under New York. The voice in Maxs head had been giving clues for days leading them to finding the Insitute. This is where they found files on their identity. This included where they came from,names and addressed of the parents.
While making a quick escape from the Institute with the newly freed experiments; Max has a confrontation with Ari. Ending in his deahth. The words from Jeb "You killed your own brother!", echo in Maxes head.
The novel comes to an end with the flock finding documentation of where they came from, at the Institute. That is all except for Max; who is left with many unanswered questions. James Patterson leaves you wondering what happens next.
